9/11 Saturday Kilauea Iki overlook, hike through Kilauea Iki, Devastation Trail, and Thurston Lava Tube (total about 7 miles hiking; Bring Flashlights/headlamps for cave).

6:30 AM - 8:00 AM Optional trip to Farmers' Market in Volcano and return to KMC.
8:30 AM Departure for Chain of Crater Road: Lava Trees, Cross sections with top view of Pahoehoe and Aa; Lunch at Hilina Pali Campground, First Exercise: Hilina Pali mapping of faults. (need Brunton, GPS; in four groups; minimal hiking day)
 
9/13 Monday Mauna Iki Hike (10 miles hike) Hilina Pali Campground - Mauna Iki Footprints trail.
 
9/14 Tuesday Early Departure to Recent Flows (leave at 3:00 AM, start hiking at 4:30 AM back to cars around 9 AM, Drive to Nanawale:, Lava Tree State Park, Littoral Cones, Lunch at outcrop, Take section at Nanawale. Going home early afternoon (probably not much hiking that day, but Madame Pele will decide)
 
9/15 Wednesday Napau Crater Hike (8-12 miles): Mauna Ulu/Makaopuhi Crater/Napau Crater.
 
9/16 Thursday Mauna Loa Trip, Kaumana Caves, Cindercones @ Mauna Loa/Mauna Kea saddle; NOAA Mauna Loa Observatory, Mapping Exercise on ML Riftzone.
 
9/17 Friday Lava Trees, Keanakakoi section. Exercise: Measure and describe stratigraphic section
 
9/18 Saturday Departure from KMC and travel home.
