Description
Sakau Seamount is located at 2¿ 20.0' S, 177¿ 49.1' E and is part of the Gilberts Ridge region on the Pacific Plate. It is 2723 m high with the top at -2700 m and the ocean bottom at 5423 m. The seamount has a volume of 3270 km3 and is very elongated with an azimuth of approximately 132¿. The edges of the seamount are irregular and two rifts were observed. The north side of the west trending rift is shallow and platform like. To the lower northeast, there is a saddle connecting the Sakau Seamount to an unnamed seamount. Dredge 24 was taken on the western rift.
