Description
Kautu Seamount is located at 1¿ 22.1' S, 175¿ 21.7' E and is part of the Gilberts Ridge region on the Pacific Plate. It is 1615 m high and is relatively deep with the top at -3100 m and ocean bottom at -4715 m. The seamount has a volume of 337 km3 and is moderately elongated with an azimuth of approximately 97¿. The edges are slightly irregular and the south side is slightly higher than the north side. There are three major ridges radiating out to the east, west and south of a central summit. Dredge AVON2-D17 was taken off the northwestern end of the west trending rift.
