Day 39 - November 26, 2018

Reports

We pulled up a little crustacean in our dredge today! He was probably the reason the dredge smelled absolutely awful, but still, it’s nice to get attention. The evening shift took the initiative to throw him back into the ocean, which was for the best.

The next dredge target we hit today was Al Awwa Escarpment. These past two escarpments have very extreme depth profiles—going from around 5 km at their deepest points to less than a kilometer at their highs. This is a very interesting situation. Dredging here gets us access to deeper rocks that may be able to provide us information on older parts of the Rio Grande Rise’s story.
