On December 18 we left the port of Auckland after the last line was released at 08:06 hr. The pilot left the JR at 09:12 hr, after which the vessel started its journey to Site U1372 (or LOUI-1C), the second-oldest seamount in the Louisville seamount trail. Projected transit is 820 nmi and the ETA is 16:00 hr on December 21. Weather was calm with occasional showers and partial sunshine. The infamous radio tower of Auckland is still clearly visible on the skyline.
