“Mountains in the Sea” published by the Seamount Biogeoscience Network (SBN)

A comprehensive, multi-disciplinary volume on Seamounts Sciences was just published in the March 2010 issue of Oceanography, the quarterly journal of The Oceanographic Society (TOS). The complete online version is freely available from the TOS website (http://www.tos.org/oceanography/issues/current.html) and the printed full-color version will be mailed in March.

Mountains in the Sea is the product of Seamounts ‘09 Conference organized by SBN in March 2009 in La Jolla, California. It is the most up-to-date synthesis of seamount sciences, covering all major scientific issues surrounding seamounts, including their relevance to mantle and lithospheric processes, their volcanic evolution and hydrologic systems, their oceanography and micro- and macro-biology, geochemistry, fisheries and mineral resources, and their conservation. Articles are peer-reviewed, scholarly publications that are written to inform a broad audience, and to educate and promote collaboration between seamount scientists. As such these publications are very useful in an educational setting.

Please feel free to download any or all of the volume. The copyright agreement with Oceanography allows for free distribution of the PDF’s in both science and education.
