Where is your hometown?
Bellingham, WA.
What is your career?
Science Teacher.
What is your education and training?
BS Geology Western Washington University in 1990.
MS Oceanography University of Hawaii in 1994.
Teaching Certificate Western Washington University in 1999.
What inspired you to choose your career and which persons were your role models?
My friend John was a research chemist before becoming a teacher and he seems to combine scientific knowledge, a curiosity about nature and an interest in how people learn in one enthusiastic package. It was irresistible. I now have several good friends who are similarly enthusiastic and talented teachers.
What are some of your favorite things about life at sea?
Getting to meet people and the food. Definitely the food. About life at sea in the tropics? The weather.
What do you do in your free time?
Road trips, mountain bike, work on bikes and mechanical projects like old motorcycles. Home repairs. I brew beer and build things like potato canons and catapults to scare the neighbors. Read.
Anything else you’d like to say?
Rust the Crust!
