Day 41 - November 28, 2018

Reports

The Suhail Escarpment dredge came up and gave us a nice mix of basalts, sediment, and corals. We spent the rest of the day transiting to the next dredge site BUT we were treated to the beginning of our student presentations! Peter gave us a taste of reconstructing the Ontong Java plateau and surrounding area in the South Pacific using 40Ar/39Ar dating, Emily walked us through her research into the history of the Yellowstone plume in Oregon, and Heather looked into magma compositions of certain volcanoes in Chile. There’s a lot of different areas of study represented on this ship, and we’re excited to hear more presentations tomorrow!
