Hawaiian Volcanoes Field Course 2010 Mike Poland of the USGS's HVO took us on a tour of the most recent lava flow (July 2010). Trees engulfed in lava often burn at the lava level and then topple, leaving impressions on the still ductile top of the lava flow.
