Robert Zierenberg with a block ejected from Halema'uma'u 1949 eruption
Robert Zierenberg resting his foot on a very large block that was ejected from Halema'uma'u in 1949. This block was hurled about 2 km from the crater, demonstrating that Kilauea can be quite explosive.
