Announcing the MagIC 2014 Science and Database Workshop, May 12th-14th, 2014

Dear colleagues in the paleo, geo, and rock magnetic communities,

We would like to invite you to attend the MagIC 2014 Science and Database Workshop being held in La Jolla, CA on May 12th-14th, 2014. This workshop will include keynote talks (45 minutes, 15 minutes discussion), shorter talks (20 minutes, 10 minutes discussion), a meet and greet, a poster session, and a hands-on data upload seminar. Scientific and database talks will be given on the 12th and 13th while the 14th will consist of a data upload seminar. The workshop will cover many of the grand challenge topics of MagIC: the geomagnetic and thermal history of the earth, true polar wander and plumes, understanding interactions between magnetic field and climate, biogeomagnetism, environmental magnetism focusing on dust and rainfall, magnetism at high pressures and in extraterrestrial bodies. Additionally, we hope to hear how MagIC could best focus on advancing these themes. The keynote speakers will be: Josh Feinberg, Dietmar Muller, and Max Brown. Please see the conference website (http://earthref.org/events/MAGIC/2014/) for more details and registration.

Everyone is welcome to present a poster. Special hotel rates will be available. There are limited travel funds to help subsidize travel expenses. If you have any questions or wish to request travel funds, please email Nick Jarboe (njarboe@ucsd.edu).
