  • MagIC Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is intended to determine the direction to be followed in the development of paleo and rock magnetic databases, and includes broad international representation from the magnetics community as well as people involved in database development in related fields of earth science.

  • Duane Champion, USGS, Menlo Park
  • Cathy Constable (Chair), Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Mike Jackson, Institute for Rock Magnetism, University of Minnesota
  • Sergei Pisarevsky, University of Western Australia
  • Hubert Staudigel, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • MagIC Metadata and Method Codes Committee

The charge for the Metadata and Method Codes Committee is to engage in continuing broad consultation with the magnetics community on the kinds of information that need to be preserved in magnetic databases, and develop an appropriate metadata template for use in rock and paleomagnetic databases. In particular, it will be necessary to develop metadata structures that can be effectively exploited for existing lines of research while preserving the flexibility for accessing information required to develop new research ideas. The results of such consultation should then be incorporated into a metadata structure, which will be reviewed by the Steering Committee and presented to researchers in the international community for comment prior to finalizing the database structure. This committee will also be in charge of adding and editing the required method codes.

  • Cathy Constable, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Anthony Koppers (Chair), Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Steve Lund, Institute for Rock Magnetism, University of Minnesota
  • Peter Solheid, Institute for Rock Magnetism, University of Minnesota
  • Joseph Stoner, COAS, Oregon State University
  • MagIC Editorial and Review Committee

The charge for the MagIC Editors is to oversee the review process of all MagIC Data Submissions. They assign each data contribution to any of the potential reviewers that also are members of this committee.

  • Cathy Constable (Editor), Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Mike Jackson (Editor), Institute for Rock Magnetism, University of Minnesota
  • Sergei Pisarevsky, University of Western Australia
  • Mireille Perrin, University of Montpellier, France
  • Hidetoshi Shibuya, Kumamoto University, Japan
  • Lisa Tauxe, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Rob Van der Voo, University of Michigan
  • MagIC Geological Timescale Committee

The charge for the Geological Timescale Committee is to work towards a nominal timescale to be used in the MagIC Database and will enhance its search capabilities and helps in the interpretation and compilation of disparate data sets.

  • Duane Champion, USGS, Menlo Park
  • Anthony Koppers, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Joseph Stoner (Chair), COAS, Oregon State University
  • MagIC Paleolocations Committee

The charge for the Paleolocations Committee is to work towards a nominal plate motion model through geological time to be used in the MagIC Database and will enhance its search capabilities and helps in the interpretation and compilation of disparate data sets.

  • Sergei Pisarevsky, University of Western Australia
  • Rob Van der Voo (Chair), University of Michigan
  • SBN Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is intended to determine the direction to be followed in the development of the SBN network and includes broad international representation from the biological and geological communities that study seamounts. The Steering Committee committee will consist of approximately ten members and offers independent oversight of this project, with Katrina Edwards as the first chair with an initial tenure of three years. The remaining members will have a minimum membership duration of two years, with some being available for four, with the hope of a 1/3 membership rotation every two years. Some members are ex-officio members that are also listed as PIís or Senior Personnel, and there is one RIDGE liaison. The remaining members were chosen on basis of missing key disciplinary representation, choosing individuals with a leadership role in their own disciplines. Steering Committee members may be called upon to deliver a keynote or act as discussion leaders at SBN workshops. They also will take on the leadership in writing white and/or review papers.

  • Katrina Edwards (chair), Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
  • Stan Hart, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
  • Marcia McNutt, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Research Institute
  • Debbie Smith, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
  • Hubert Staudigel, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Brad Tebo, Oregon Health and Science University
  • Geoffrey Wheat (NOAA's Undersea Research Program )
  • SBN Senior Personnel

The Senior Personnel is a focus group that actively will work to establish and further the goals of the SBN network. The network is directed by Lead-PI Hubert Staudigel, including the network development, disciplinary integration, workshop planning, and the user-end of the database development. Co-PI Anthony Koppers will direct the development of the SBN database and website. The rest of the Senior Personnel will take on the cumulative scientific responsibility for the network, while advising the PIís on scientific issues, such as metadata choices and structure, choice and prioritization of data and materials to be archived, relationships of these data to neighboring disciplines, how data are represented in the database, as well as workshop planning and execution. Senior Personnel and the PI's will meet frequently in person, online or in videoconferences that will be held about every three months.
