Stability relations of iron have been studied by means of in situ X-ray observations using an eight cubic anvil system (Kawai-type apparatus) equipped with sintered diamond (SD), in order to explore the stability of ¿-iron. By observing the forward and reverse transitions, it has been confirmed that ϵ-iron directly transforms into γ phase up to ca. 44 GPa and 2100 K, excluding the stability of ¿ phase. The constrained ϵ-γ phase boundary is expressed by the equation T (K) = 25 ¿ P (GPa) + 540. |
