Scoop sampling at Ula Nui A sampling device made of PVC and a ballvalve is used to scoop up microbial mat. This movie also shows how Jason's manipulator arm opens the valve, releasing distilled and sterile water from the scoops interior. After the scooping, the ball valve is closed and the collected sample returns uncontaminated by surface waters.
