Exposure experiment SIO-175 deployed at Ula Nui
PVC containers include a range of substrates to explore how different microbes colonize and chemically modify them. Substrates are chosen for their "food-value" to specific microbes. Those include basalt with or without reduced iron, witn reduced manganese or phosphorous. This experiment is perched on a rock and will allow us to determine which microbes colonize a fresh, unweathered surface. At these temperatures at least two years of exposure are needed to see prominent effects of colonization.
