Description
This photograph is of the field lines of a bar magnet (dipole). An 11 by 11 array of small compass needles placed on a Plexiglas sheet are aligned along the magnetic field lines of a bar magnet which is placed underneath the Plexiglas. The orientation of the compass needles show the direction of the field lines. |
|
Instructions Follow the arrows of the compass needles and determine where the magnetic field lines come from and where they are going. Imagine a spherical earth in the middle of the image and figure out which way the magnetic field lines of an earth-sized bar magnet point at the equator and at the pole. |
