The Earth's Magnetic Field |
|
| |
| |
Description
The figure represents magnetic data taken from multiple locations around the world. It shows whether or not the samples were formed during a time that had a normal or reversed magnetic field. Each dot represents a different rock sample, which were then used to determine when the magnetic field was normal or reversed. The magnetic time scale is also included, which was created by radiometric dating of each sample to determine their ages. Magnetic chrons are defined as periods in which magnetic polarity remains stable, i.e. Brunhes Normal Chron and Matuyama Reverse Chron. |
