Description
The fourth chapter in Naomi Oreskes' Plate Tectonics: An Insider's History of the Modern Theory of the Earth, written by Lawrence Morley. Morley describes his initial interest in geophysics and his eventual academic path into paleomagnetism. He highlights the battle of self-reversing rocks vs. the reversal of the Earth's magnetic field and how each proclamation led to different conclusions. He touches on the discovery and importance of mid-ocean ridges and the process of seafloor spreading as well as his initial correlation between magnetic anomalies and convection cells in the mantle. |
