The Formation of Oceanic Crust
Description
This powerpoint presentation is aimed to layout the one of the key observations that support the theory of plate tectonics. It shows evidence for the oldest ocean floor (~168 Ma) in the Pacific ocean at ODP Site 801C and the oldest seamount (~140 Ma) in the West Pacific Seamount Province. Both extremes show us that the ocean floor is never older than a few hundred million of years and thus need to be destroyed in the subduction zones since it is being produced at the Mid-Ocean Ridges at a constant rate.
