Description
Biogenerated textures of the tubular type. (a) Differently oriented fractures with the tubular-type biostructures showing parallel orientation. (b) Detail from Figure 4a. (c and d) Both samples from 504B, 48-2, 121-126. Light photomicrographs of the tubular-type biostructures, all rooted in fractures. Figure 4d shows detail from Figure 4c. Note that the structures are rooted at different levels within the glass (some are in focus whereas some are out of focus), and the budding along the stem, leading to local branching. Figures 4a and 4b are BSE-SEM images from sample 46-396B, 20R-3, 108-112. Abbreviations are as follows: FG, fresh glass; TT, tubular type |
