Description
BSE-SEM images (Figures 5a and 5d) and element maps showing the distribution of carbon (Figures 5b and 5e), and calcium (Figures 5c and 5f) from the same areas as Figures 5a and 5d. Bioalteration of the granular type is shown in Figures 5a-5c. Note the banded, abiotic alteration to the left in the BSE-SEM image of Figure 5a and the high concentration of carbon and low concentration of calcium at the alteration of the X-ray maps of Figures 5b and 5c, respectively. Sample 46-369B, 9R-1, 126-134. Bioalteration of the tubular type is shown in Figures 5c and 5d. Sample 49-409, 13R-2, 95-105. For the X-ray mapping the thin sections were coated with Cr. Abbreviations are as follows: FG, fresh glass; GT, granular type; AB, abiotic alteration; TT, tubular type |
