Description
The image shows 4 magnetic profiles across the East Pacific Rise, each with a different spreading rate. As the spreading rate increases from 25 to 50, 100, and 125 km/Myr (2.5, 5.0, 10.0 and 12.5 cm/yr respectively), the profiles become smoother. Smoother profiles are easier to compare the magnetic signatures on each side of the ridge and with magnetic profiles from other locations. |
