Offered by the Summer Session of
University of California San Diego (ERTH 170) (4 units; + 2 units for ERTH 198) Instructors: Peter Schiffman (UCD), Hubert Staudigel (SIO) and Robert Zierenberg (UCD) Cost (approximate): $1000 (tuition) plus $400 (room/dinner at Kilauea Military Camp and transportation on Hawaii). Course prerequisites: ERTH 101 or consent of the instructor, 18 years or older, ability to hike 15 km/day. Grading: This course may be taken for a letter grade. The grade will be based on participation, written assignments, mid-term and final exam. Students may also sign up for an additional two units of ERTH 198 (for an additional fee) and there will be extra assignments for those who do. UCSD Application process: Class size is limited to 20 and is on a first come (tuition paid to UC Regents and application received on a first come, first served basis and a check made payable to Armed Forces Recreation Center is due with the application. No refunds to accepted students. Applications accepted until August 15, 2004 or until full. Applications are available online (http://summersession.ucsd.edu/) or at the Summer session office.
