Description
Kuria Atoll is located at 0¿ 11.8' N, 173¿ 29.7' E and is part of the Gilberts Ridge region on the Pacific Plate. The atoll is 3560 m high with the top at -200 m and the ocean bottom at -3760 m. It has a volume of 5717 km3 and is moderately elongated with an azimuth of approximately 117¿. The edges of the atoll are very smooth. The top is relatively flat with the highest point on the eastern side and a gradual decrease in height to the west. Kuria is part of a cluster of volcanoes on a common platform and is connected by saddles to Mauga Umi and Amu Tau.
