Description
Nanouti Atoll is located at 0¿ 40.2' S, 174¿ 18.9' E and is part of the Gilberts Ridge region on the Pacific Plate. The atoll is 4136 m high with the top at -600 m and the ocean bottom at -4736 m. It has a volume of 15938 km3 and is slightly elongated with an azimuth of approximately 131¿. The edges are very smooth along the western side and slightly irregular along the eastern side of the seamount. The top is a relatively flat surface and a saddle connects the atoll to a seamount to the southeast. The atoll was only partially surveyed by SeaBeam. Dredge AVON2-D12 was taken off the northern tip of the northwest trending rift.
