Description
Palutu Seamount is located at 0¿ 52.6' S, 175¿ 30.8' E and is part of the Gilberts Ridge region on the Pacific Plate. It is 3018 m high with the top at -1700 m and ocean bottom at -4718 m. It has a volume of 2116 km3 and is slightly elongated with an azimuth of approximately 111¿. The seamount has relatively irregular edges and five predominant rifts, which meet at the seamount summit. The seamount has a plateau off to the west raised to approximately -3500 m with apparent volcanoes. Dredges AVON2-D13 and AVON2-D14 were taken off the west trending and southwest trending rifts respectively.
