Description
Niu Guyot is located at 4¿ 43.7' N, 172¿ 30.5' E and is part of the Gilberts Ridge region on the Pacific Plate. It is 3095 m high with the top at -1200 m and the ocean bottom at -4295 m. The guyot has a volume of 3490 km3 and is elongated with two cones separated by a saddle, which may represent two separate volcanoes. The east and northwest rifts define the length of the volcano, which is heavily covered with corals. The observed flattish top results in the classification of Niu as a guyot. It is the northern most volcano on a common platform including Pulu Guyot and Sua Seamount.
