Description
Tanoa Seamount is located at 5¿ 60.0' S, 173¿ 46.0' W and is part of the Tokelau Seamounts on the Pacific Plate. It is 2748 m high with the top at -2600 m and the ocean bottom at -5348 m. The seamount has a volume of 1080 km3 and is moderately elongated with an azimuth of approximately 157¿. The edges of the seamount are slightly irregular and there are multiple rifts radiating out from a central summit. A saddle exists to the south connecting Tanoa to Tau Tau Seamount. Tanoa is the northern most volcano in a cluster of volcanoes on a common platform with an orientation of 333¿. Dredge AVON2-D45 was taken on the north end of the northwest trending rift and dredge AVON2-D46 was taken on the south trending rift.
