Description
Fakaofu Atoll is located at 9¿ 22.4' S, 171¿ 13.2' W and is part of the Tokelau Seamounts on the Pacific Plate. It is 3734 m high with the top at -100 m and the ocean bottom at -3834 m. The atoll has a volume of 5420 km3 and is fairly round with slightly irregular edges. There is one predominate rift off to the north and there may be mass wasting occurring along the southwestern side of the atoll resulting in the formation of scarps. The top surface of the atoll is relatively flat. There are pockmark features to west southwest of the atoll and there may be a platform located to the west southwest. Dredge number AVON2-D62 was taken on the north trending rift.
