Exposure Experiment Deployment at Ula Nui (SIO176)
PVC containers include a range of substrates to explore how different microbes colonize and chemically modify them. Substrates are chosen for their "food-value" to specific microbes. Those include basalt with or without reduced iron, witn reduced manganese or phosphorous. This particular sample sank into the mud and this experiment will serve to trap microbes from within a mat. This experiment will be reocovered during next year's expedition.
