Description
This upload contains the 40Ar/39Ar geochronology age determination of sample HO-HI-3 from Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia and was calculated using the ArArCALC freeware. The preferred age of 2.5933 ± 0.0028 Ma is the age plateau and is interpreted as the eruption age of the sample. The plateau displays a fairly long recoil pattern (consistant with the glass nature of the groundmass). The plateau steps downward in apparent age continually until about 45 % 39Ar is released. Then a more consistant plateau is produced followed by high temperature recoil effects. If the couple recoil steps prior to where I chose the plateau are included the age becomes 2598 ka. The age determination was carried out on a sample of basalt (groundmass) in an incremental heating experiment and using the in situ laser heating extraction method. The analyses were run on a ARGUS-VI mass spectrometer and the ages were calculated relative to flux monitor FCT-NM (R98) (4C25-14) (sanidine) with an age of 28.201 ± 0.082 Ma. This sample was collected by Kevin Konrad (Konradke@oregonstate.edu). Sample Description: 1x leach. Sample Treatment: Individual handsample from the Marquesas Islands. . Location Description: Hanaiapa Bay, Hiva Oa Island, Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia. Lat/Long/Elevation is approximate. .
