Description
This upload contains the 40Ar/39Ar geochronology age determination of sample HO-PUA-02 from Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia and was calculated using the ArArCALC freeware. The preferred age of 1.6980 ± 0.0018 Ma is the age plateau and is interpreted as the eruption age of the sample. The groundmass is clearly K rich and produced a long, high precision age spectrum. The sample displays a gradually decreasing apparent age. The decision on where to start the plateau was slightly subjective, however the resulting age doesn't vary more than a few ka depending on where the plateau begins. The higher temperature steps show some recoil patterns with a brief spike in apparent age, likely induced by the release of excess Ar from a melt inclusion. The age determination was carried out on a sample of basalt (groundmass) in an incremental heating experiment and using the in situ laser melting extraction method. The analyses were run on a ARGUS-VI mass spectrometer and the ages were calculated relative to flux monitor FCT-NM (6A6-15) (sanidine) with an age of 28.201 ± 0.082 Ma. This sample was collected by Kevin Konrad (Konradke@oregonstate.edu). Sample Description: 1x leach. Sample Treatment: Individual handsample from the Marquesas Islands. . Location Description: Puama'u Bay, Hiva Oa Island, Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia. Lat/Long/Elevation is approximate. .
