Description
This cartoon describes some of basic chemistry that takes place in a hydrothermal vent system. It shows how some elements are dissolved into the sea water to evolve into mineral rich fluids that are then emitted through chimneys called black smokers. The emitted fluid is then cooled and the minerals are precipitate back to the ocean floor and the surrounding vent system environment.
