The temporal evolution of the electron energy distribution in the near wake of a conducting object has been studied experimentally, using a pulsed plasma stream. We have found that depending on the electron energy distribution of the incident plasma stream and on the extent to which the ion flow energy is greater or lower than the potential energy of the object, the electron temperature may be hotter or colder than the ambient value in the region. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1987 |
