Detailed empirical models of the ionospheric convection electric field and auroral-latitude conductance are used to show that at 04 magnetic local time (MLT) the electric field magnitude peaks at least 5¿ poleward of the Hall conductance and is the stronger contributor to the poleward half of the westward electrojet current in the morning sector. At 20 MLT the eastward electrojet current is centered on the electric field and conductance profiles, which have a similar peak latitude and extent. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1987
