Semkow, T.M. and Parekh, P.P. (1990). The role of radium distribution and porosity in radon emanation from solids. Geophysical Research Letters 17: doi: 10.1029/90GL00393. issn: 0094-8276.

Essential features of the grain emanation and aggregation models are presented. The presence of thin layers containing Ra is shown to enhance the Rn emanation from the grains. A multiple &agr;-recoil mechanism is suggested to create a nonuniform Ra distribution. It is also shown that the mesoporosity may increase Rn emanation and the macroporosity may contribute to Rn transport.
