The first simultaneous power spectral densities of high resolution lower stratospheric temperature and horizontal/vertical velocity fluctuations are presented. Amplitudes are within a factor of 2 or 3 of other observations reported in literature. However, the measured amplitude ratios, which are absolute characteristics of the fluctuating wave field, disagree significantly (multiplicative factor up to 10) with predictions of the saturation theory. Our results disagree with the concept of a universal spectrum controlled by saturated waves. ¿ Americal Geophysical Union 1991 |
