Optical observations with DE 1 and Viking demonstrate conclusively that transpolar arcs can be present simultaneously at polar latiudes in both hemispheres. The arcs observed here are aligned parallel to one another on opposite sides of the magnetic pole, and relative to the noon-midnight meridian are rotated slightly in the counterclockwise direction when viewed from above the North Pole. ¿American Geophysical Union 1991 |
