Ip, W.-H. and Prangé, R. (1994). On possible magnetospheric dust interactions of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 at Jupiter. Geophysical Research Letters 21: doi: 10.1029/94GL01063. issn: 0094-8276.

The plasma interaction of the dust coma of comet Shoemaker--Levy 9 with the Jovian magnetosphere could result in the possible generation of a field-aligned electric current system connecting the impinging dust cloud with the Jovian ionosphere. If the current flow is intense enough, transient auroral activity might be produced as a result. In this event, enhanced level of auroral and radio emissions would be expected an hour or so before the atmospheric impact. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1994
