We demonstrate that laser-light scattering (LLS) off glacial (pre-Holocene) polar ice can be used to measure variations in dust concentration along sections of bubble-free ice core. We have used this technique with considerable success on the GISP2 ice core that was retrieved from central Greenland down to bedrock.
