We demonstrate that laser-light scattering (LLS) off glacial (pre-Holocene) polar ice can be used to measure variations in dust concentration along sections of bubble-free ice core. We have used this technique with considerable success on the GISP2 ice core that was retrieved from central Greenland down to bedrock. The technique is fast, non-destructive and has a very high resolution (1 mm or less). ¿ American Geophysical Union 1995 |
