Walterscheid, R.L. and Sivjee, G.G. (1996). Very high frequency tides observed in the airglow over Eureka (80°). Geophysical Research Letters 23: doi: 10.1029/96GL03482. issn: 0094-8276.

The absolute brightness and spectral distributions of OH airglow Meinel band near infrared emissions (1.0&mgr;--1.7&mgr;) were obtained from a Michelson Interferometer operating at Eureka (80¿0' N 85¿56' W), Canada, during polar night. A cross-spectral analysis of brightness and rotational temperature data from December 1, 1993, to December 20, 1993, shows spectral features with periods near 12, 8, 6, 4, and 3 hours. The periods (tidal harmonics) and persistence (days to weeks) of these features argue for a tidal interpretation. Tidal Hough functions indicate that the dominant spectral features are most likely the manifestation of zonally symmetric tides. The tides at Eureka exhibit a high degree of transience. There is a suggestion of an oscillation with a period close to 5 hours. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1996
