The unit cell parameters of deuterated gypsum have been extracted from Rietveld analysis of neutron powder diffraction data, obtained during compression of powdered gypsum up to 5.4 GPa. The unit-cell of gypsum compresses anisotropically, with the largest compression along the b-axis. The static compressibility has been determined by fitting the data to a third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. This yields values of 45¿1 GPa for the bulk modulus and 2.0¿0.2 for its pressure derivative.¿ 1997 American Geophysical Union
