Recent investigations of the NO3--DMS reaction showed that HNO3 is the dominant nitrogen product. It is argued that this finding can have implications on the NOX-HNO3/nitrate partitioning, in particular lowering the NOX(=NO+NO2) concentrations in the remote marine boundary layer. Since there ozone formation is NOX limited, biogenic DMS sources may influence the ozone production on a global scale.¿ 1997 American Geophysical Union |
