We report on the first detection of energy-time dispersed charged particle signatures of dynamic injections within Jupiter's inner magnetosphere. They were observed by the Energetic Particle Detector on the Galileo spacecraft. The signatures documented here were detected most clearly in ~15--880 keV electrons when Galileo was near local noon at a radial position of ~11 RJ. On the basis of the character of the signatures (~60-min signatures within each energy channel and up to ~90-min time dispersions between channels), the injection disturbances occurred 24--33 h prior to the time of the detections and spanned ~2.5 h (<40¿) of azimuth at the time of the disturbances. Possible generation mechanisms and similarities with Earth magnetosphere events are discussed. ¿ 1997 American Geophysical Union |
