Effects of the mean meridional circulation, diurnal and semidiurnal tides, and eddy and molecular diffusion on O concentrations and 5577 ¿ emission rates are examined. Vertical winds play an important role in producing variations in these quantities, and accounting for the equatorial emission rate structures inferred from the WINDII experiment on UARS. Smaller secondary effects are produced by tidal variations in the major species concentrations and in temperature-dependent chemical reaction rates. ¿ 1998 American Geophysical Union |
