Kentarchos, A.S., Davies, T.D. and Zerefos, C.S. (1998). A low latitude stratospheric intrusion associated with a cut-off low. Geophysical Research Letters 25: doi: 10.1029/97GL03351. issn: 0094-8276.

An ozonesonde released from Thessaloniki, Greece (40 ¿N, 23 ¿E) in March 1995 indicated a pronounced stratospheric intrusion into the troposphere. This study represents the first identification and analysis of such an event in southeastern Europe. Total ozone data and potential vorticity values of >6 pvu on the 315 K isentrope over Greece supported a low-level southwards excursion of stratospheric air. The event was associated with the evolution of a cut-off low over the Balkans. Confirmation is achieved through potential vorticity and specific humidity fields, as well as METEOSAT-5 images. ¿ 1998 American Geophysical Union
