For two years we observed the vertical distribution of clouds and aerosols in Jakarta, Indonesia, with ground-based Mie scattering lidars. A histogram of the cloud base height shows a notable maximum at an altitude of approximately 5 km, especially in the wet season. The planetary boundary layer height we inferred from the upper boundary of the aerosol layer was approximately 1.5--2 km in the wet season and 2--3 km in the dry season. ¿ 2000 American Geophysical Union |
