Bubble mediated processes such as gas transfer and bubble-burst aerosol production have long been of geo-physical interest. In contrast, the bubble generation by bubble bursting remains unquantified. Based on a series of laboratory experiments, evidence for bubble production by bursting bubbles is presented as well as the bubble distribution produced by this mechanism for salt and fresh water. ¿ 2000 American Geophysical Union
