This paper investigates the possibility of determining electron drift velocities in the auroral ionosphere using data from only one VHF radar station that can make simultaneous Doppler velocity measurements in several different directions relative to the electron drift velocity. A technique has been developed for determining the electron drift using Doppler velocity measurements at large flow angles; this leads to improved electron drift velocity estimates when the ionospheric flows are spatially homogeneous over the radar field of view. The results are compared with ion drift measurements made with an incoherent radar facility; agreements and differences between the two measurements as well as limitations of the analysis technique are discussed. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1994
