This is the first of two contributions devoted to the petrology of Hawaiian basalts. In this part the petrography of some Kilauean tholeiitic picrite basalts and their metamorphic representatives is described. A discussion of the genetic features of the rocks based on new chemical data, particularly of the composition of pyroxene phases, is provided. |
